Man on a Motorcycle

A rare illustration I colored, but this has always been a favorite with friends, so I’m sharing it with you!

As I recall, I rendered this from a magazine advertisement, so the overall composition (model, pose, bike, etc.) are not my own, but it was fun to draw nonetheless.

Although you can see my preference is pen and ink, I’m also a big fan of watercolor! I love the way that through the slightly unpredictable manner that the water interacts with the paper you get some really bold coloring, dynamic shadowing, and unique impressions. Accompanied by the hard pen and ink lines, this was a neat experiment and I was very pleased with the result!

The overall impression is kind of a rusted, aged, dirty look that the balance between the pen and ink and watercolor really bring out.

(I apologize for the bad scan… the right side of the illustration is darker than it should be.)
